Hayes Miller didn’t need to be on the Nebraska football radar long before he pulled the trigger. On Saturday afternoon, the JUCO wide receiver announced that he’d agreed to play for Matt Rhule and company.

What’s even more impressive is that Miller's addition to the team won’t count against their scholarship limit. The former Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College standout has chosen to walk on, showcasing his determination and belief in his abilities.

Nebraska football adds veteran presence to wide receiver room

Miller counts as a veteran because he’s played at the JUCO level, but it will be interesting to see how fast he can pick up the Nebraska football offense. One of the things that stood out for Miller when he came to Lincoln earlier this spring is that he didn’t really have a wide receiver’s coach until early 2024.

In the short period he’d worked with a position coach, he said he felt as though he learned quite a bit, quickly.

Hayes Miller is another Postgrad Camp diamond

One of the big recruiting changes Huskers head coach Rhule implemented last summer was hosting a Postgrad camp. This was the second year they’ve done it, and Miller happens to be the third guy they’ve signed from that camp.

Miller joins former NAIA quarterback Jayln Gramstad from this year’s camp. Both players this year in turn, joined walk-on quarterback Luke Longval, who joined the roster in 2023 after attending last year’s Postgrad Camp.

Because Miller hasn’t had much experience in the college ranks as a wide receiver, it might take some time for him to get up to speed. On the other hand, he could at least add some depth to a room that is expected to take some big strides.

Miller’s announcement for the Nebraska football team comes just two days before the dead period kicks into gear on Monday.
