The Nebraska football team has their 2025 quarterback recruit locked in thanks to TJ Lateef’s commitment earlier this spring. Now the Huskers are on the prowl for their 2026 quarterback commit, and it’s clear they aren’t locking themselves into one prospect.

This weekend, that search led to another offer for a 2026 quarterback in Seminole (Fla.) quarterback Michael Clayton. The 4-star quarterback out of Orlando is considered among the 50 best signal-callers in his class and among the 75 best players in Florida.

Should it want to reel in Clayton, Nebraska football has some ground to make up. Teams like Miami and Missouri have been in the race longer. However, it appears Matt Rhule, Glenn Thomas and company have gotten a foot in the door.

According to On3’s Bryan Munson, Clayton came camping in Lincoln earlier this summer. What he showed the Cornhuskers coaches was enough to issue them an offer.

Now it’s about getting the gunslinger to come back to Lincoln and really worm the program into his heart. So far so good on that end, it appears.

“I threw great at camp this summer and several coaches mentioned they were impressed, especially because it was a real windy day,” Clayton said not long after the offer.

“The feedback was all very positive, and there were some constructive teaching points. I really liked the way the entire staff and current players coached at the camp.”

Clayton has told those who will listen that he’d like to come back later this month. And if that can’t happen, he wants to get back for a game. He’s circled the Nebraska football game against Colorado as one contest he’d like to see in person. That weekend could end up being a mammoth recruiting period.
