There’s a ton of excitement around Dylan Raiola for excellent reasons. The Nebraska football program is on the verge of finally getting things turned around and the former 5-star quarterback will play a big part in that.

Part of the reason there’s so much excitement around the Huskers is because of the quarterback IQ of Raiola. He’s got the smarts and he’s got the will to turn around the sleeping giant that is the Nebraska Cornhuskers. And one former NU great believes that QB IQ is something special.

Nebraska football great noticed Dylan Raiola’s quarterback intelligence early on

Former Husker running back Ameer Abdullah appeared on 93.7 The Ticket last week to weigh in on how good he thinks Raiola can be and segwayed into a story about when the former Detroit Lion played with Dylan’s father, Dominic Raiola.

“His father Dominic Raiola had just finished up in the NFL and he was an assistant coach in Detroit, Abdullah said. “So Dylan would be around all the time and you could tell that he had that it factor just that IQ of like a quarterback or that attentionality of a quarterback.”

The former Cornhusker also pointed out that the younger Raiola had some very good teachers at a very young age when he was still learning the sport.

“He would just be around Matthew Stafford, he would be around Calvin (Johnson), he would be around myself and he'd be throwing the ball playing catch after practice every single day.”

Abdullah finished his story by saying he believes Raiola is going to unlock NU this year and finally get the team back to the playoffs. He’s not the only one, but he’d certainly know what it takes.

It’s hard not to get excited about the 2024 season and Nebraska football when you hear the greats of the game talking like that.
