Nebraska football won’t have the Florida State Seminoles to kick around
It’s looking less and less likely that the Nebraska football team will be calling Florida State a conference rival. However the reason that the Seminoles aren’t joining the Big Ten isn’t about the AAU as it was rumored to be in the past.
According to Brett McMurphy, it looks as though SEC Media Days kicking off as shed more light on where FSU isn’t going. The Seminoles have reportedly managed to make themselves persona non grata in the eyes of both the Big Ten and SEC because of the school’s behavior over the last year.
What’s not clear from McMurphy’s report is whether or not Clemson might still be on the table for Nebraska football as far as a conference rival. But if the two schools are headed to the same conference, it won’t be the B1G.
Nebraska football won’t have the Florida State Seminoles to kick around in the Big Ten
“Big Ten, SEC unlikely to add Florida State if it leaves ACC & ACC survives,” McMurphy wrote on Twitter. “Big Ten & SEC don’t want FSU because adding FSU doesn’t make financial sense, no desire to expand & ‘they’ve been a disruptive partner,’ sources said.”
It’s the disruptive partner that stands out the most in the statement. Clearly the fact that their departure is coming after they didn’t make the College Football Playoff has gotten attention. Their behavior after the playoffs didn’t sit well with anyone, apparently.
However the “no desire to expand” is also pretty newsworthy. There’s been an assumption around the college football world that the power conferences would add more teams sooner or later.
It’s possible the plan is to stand pat for now. That’s actually good news for the Nebraska football team as it tries to find a way to gain stability in the new Big Ten. Adding more teams would only make that harder.
