Nebraska football fighting off Texas for talented linebacker
When Anthony “Deuce” Williams announces his commitment on New Year’s Day, he will be officially picking between 12 teams. The Nebraska football team is one of the 3-star linebacker’s finalists, but there might be one clear favorite the Huskers will have to overcome.
Alongside the Nebraska football team, the Shadow Creek defender named the Auburn Tigers, TCU Horned Frogs, Houston Cougars, Oregon Ducks, Arizona Wildcats, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Baylor Bears, Arkansas Razorbacks, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Kansas Jayhawks and Texas Longhorns among the teams he’s deciding amongst.
However, while the Huskers have been on a bit of a recruiting roll, it appears that the team to beat is the Longhorns. But that doesn’t mean the Cornhuskers don’t have any chance.
For one thing, while Williams wants to announce his commitment as a way to ring in the new year, it doesn’t appear that his recruitment is going to be completely closed. He did visit Texas on December 29, but he’s also got plans for well into the month of January.
Williams is also expected to attend Texas’ Junior Day festivities on January 20.
All of that means that Nebraska football and every other team pursuing him have their work cut out for them. But there’s also a reason why the linebacker decided to include 12 teams in his final pre-commitment list.
Nebraska football needs to make up ground on Texas
There’s one thing to be said about Deuce Williams making his commitment this early in the year. There’s plenty of time to get him to change his mind. And when Matt Rhule makes a prospect a priority, he’s had good success doing just that.
Husker fans certainly know the story of how Nebraska lost out on Dylan Raiola to Georgia. Rhule didn’t give up on bringing the top quarterback in the class to Lincoln and ultimately got the 5-star flip.
Now, Nebraska football is looking to overcome another tough customer to land one of the best linebackers in the 2025 class.
