The soap opera involving Nebraska football and Dylan Raiola has had a ton of different twists and turns. There was the time that everyone thought he was going to be committing to the Cornhuskers this spring. Then he committed to Georgia and everyone thought it was over.
The latest twists and turn started when Matt Rhule and company convinced the 5-star quarterback to give Nebraska football another look. And when the Huskers did convince the stud QB to come give Lincoln another try, they weren't going to let anyone get in the way. In fact, it sounds like they went to some pretty hilarious lengths to keep him in lockdown.
According to On3's Sean Callahan Dylan's uncle of Nebraska football offensive line coach Donovan Raiola played guard dog for his nephew. Or more accurately, he played guard dog for the Huskers.
Callahan claimed that after Matt Rhule and company went to go see Dylan last week to try and pull him back to the Huskers, they eventually had to leave but they left Donovan behind. He was able to bunk up in Buford, Georgia with his brother, former Husker great Dominic Raiola.
Callahan added this rumor made sense because the pictures of Dylan's arrival include Donovan getting off the plane with his nephew and Dominic.
Nebraska football coach plays guard dog
The theory is that with Donovan staying in Georgia, he was able to keep the Bulldogs, or any other team that sensed an opening away from the prized Nebraska football recruit. As Callahn put it, if the stories of what the Huskers offensive line coach did in order to get Dylan to Lincoln are true it would be the "blitz pick up" of the year.
When all is said and done with this recruiting cycle, the story of Donovan Raiola standing guard over Nebraska football's quarry will be one for the ages.
