Nebraska football rival's 'chaotic culture' shows a program about to crumble

There's little doubt that Deion Sanders' program isn't built for the long haul, but it could be collapsing sooner than expected.

It’s become impossible not to compare everything that goes on with Nebraska football to what’s going on down the road with the Colorado Buffaloes. After all, both Matt Rhule and Deion Sanders were hired as head coaches in the same offseason. There was even some talk that the Huskers were looking at “Coach Prime” for their own opening before settling on Rhule.

Luckily, the Cornhuskers didn’t hire Sanders because while things feel like they are on the upswing in Lincoln, they look like they are about to implode in Boulder. Deion Sanders is running a program that garners headlines often, but very rarely are they of the positive variety.

A new report about the long-time Nebraska football rival seems to clarify that things are moving in the wrong direction for CU. In fact, things are “chaotic” according to Athlon Sports and it’s not surprising that there are quite a few players that aren’t thrilled with what’s going on.

Nebraska football rival has ‘chaotic’ culture that’s imploding

"It's like a real-life Grand Theft Auto video game," one former player told Athlon Sports’ Steve Corder. "There are many distractions with fights, guns, and money floating around. The environment is unlike any I’ve come from before."

Another player reportedly went more in depth.

"Cormani was taking a lot of heat from everyone," said the former player. "At the same time Coach Prime was saying he was in the doghouse and needed to improve, Cormani was getting bullied by Shilo (Sanders). After the Oregon State game, Shilo slapped him several times, which left Cormani screaming 'I'm going to kill you' repeatedly. After that, you could tell he wasn’t mentally there. It’s hard when the coaches you trust are calling you derogatory names on the practice field."

These kinds of articles are interesting because it feels like this is where the Buffs have been going for a while now. When Colorado started out 3-0 last season, including a win over the Huskers, Deion Sanders was the hottest name in the sport.

Now, it seems as if he’s probably got one more season before he completely flames out. Here’s hoping the Nebraska football team gives him a kick on his way out the door.
