As if there wasn’t already enough excitement about Nebraska football heading into the 2024 season, now there’s extra incentive for fans to root for the Huskers to a Big Ten title. And it’s not just that the Nebraska baseball team has set the standard this year.

This time around, the fans could have an actual financial stake in NU’s success. Action Plumbing, Heating, Air Conditioning & Electrical has struck an unusual NIL deal with defensive lineman Ty Robinson.

That deal means that if the Nebraska football team wins the Big Ten title, anyone who buys a water heater from the company will receive the cost of the device for free. It’s the kind of gamble that the company probably isn’t that worried about.

On the other hand, it’s also the kind of gamble that makes headlines, especially because of the excitement surrounding the program. Robinson recently explained how all of this is supposed to work to Andy Staples earlier this week.

“I recently just did a commercial for Action with their water heater sales,” Robinson said during Big Ten Media Days. “If we win the conference championship, then you get your money back on the water heater. You’ll get your money back.”

So how likely is it that Action Plumbing is going to have a big financial layout by the end of the season? According to both FanDuel and DraftKings, the Huskers have a 55-1 chance of winning the conference.

In other words, it’s not totally out of the question. It’s just incredibly unlikely. Keep in mind that means if, instead of buying a water heater, you bet $10 on Nebraska football to win the Big Ten title. Should they pull it off, you’d win $550. That seems like the kind of gamble I can get behind, with much smaller customer layout.
