Nebraska Cornhuskers set for Lexington in latest projections
The Nebraska Cornhuskers hope to win their first Big Ten Baseball Tournament on Sunday. However, even if they don't, it appears they are now a stone-cold, lead pipe lock to make the NCAA Tournament. Unfortunately, it does look like Will Bolt's squad has run out of chances of hosting the regionals.
It also looks like their little run through the Big Ten Tournament hasnt convinced the powers that be that they should be a better number two seed. Previous projections had them heading to Fayetteville to take on former head coach Dave Van Horn's Arkansas Razorbacks. It looks like the Cornhuskers might wish that was the case after all.
The latest regionals layout from D1baseball.com predict that Nebraska will both win the Big Ten title and then head to Lexington, Kentucky. That would be number the two overall ranked Kentucky Wildcats home.
While the Huskers will be the number two seed in that regional, it would mean they're slated for a pretty tough road to the super regionals. Meanwhile, Arkansas is the 5th overall seed and Oklahoma, another popular destination for the Cornhuskers is the 8th overall seed.
Nebraska Cornhuskers staring at tough regional path ahead
Should the Huskers head to Lexington, the latest projections have them joining TCU as the 3-seed and Northern Kentucky as the 4-seed.
Regarding the regional host, the Wildcats just finished a stellar season, even if they didn't make the SEC Championship game. Kentucky finished the 2024 campaign with a record of 40-14 and tied for first in the SEC East division.
Meanwhile, TCU finished 33-21 and 14-16 in the Big 12. Meanwhile, Northern Kentucky won the Horizon League and posted a 33-22 record that included a 19-11 conference record.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers look like the only representative in the state to be projected to the regionals, with Omaha and Creighton's seasons likely being over. However, the Huskers aren't the only Big Ten team in D1baseball's predictions. Illinois is slated for a 3 seed in the Terre Haute regional, hosted by Indiana State.
