Nebraska Cornhuskers news: Locking down official visits, serial killer Herbie, more

  • The Nebraska Cornhuskers' mascot has historically had creepy appearances and we were reminded of that earlier this month.
  • 3-star lineman Brian Tapu's official visit to Nebraska is set for June 14.
  • Top target Michael Riles also visiting Nebraska in June, hoping to secure his commitment.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have always been one of those teams that, when looked at closer, their mascot is a bit creepy. Sure, Herbie is just a happy go lucky guy wearing overalls. But that giant head and the plastered grin looks more than a little creepy if you stare at him long enough.

Of course he's got nothing on the Herbies that came before him. The mascots for the Nebraska Cornhuskers who have evolved over the years definitely had some funky appearances to them.

One such mascot was so weird that he even made an appearance on a recent episode of of John Oliver's Last Week Tonight

We're always talking about how Nebraska is becoming more relevant when it gets talked about more. This is hadly what we're looking for in that regard, but perhaps beggars can't be choosers.

Brian Tapu sets official visit

The Nebraska football team is working hard to build its 2025 recruiting class after what's been a rather quiet period. It feels as though June could heat up something fierce. Hopefully, Brian Tapu is one of the reasons it does.

Tapu is a 3-star offensive lineman from Salt Lake City, Utah, who announced on social media that he'll visit Nebraska officially from June 14 to 16.

The Huskers are going up against schools like Iowa State, Arizona, Utah and others. At the moment, Matt Rhule and company are considered the front runners. They'll hope to close the deal when he's in Lincoln.

Michael Riles coming at end of June

Another top target of the Nebraska Cornhuskers also set a June official visit to Lincoln, though he'll be in town the week after Tapu.

Defensive lineman Michael Riles is set to come see what the football program has to offer on June 21. Like Tapu, the Huskers are considered the front runner for the 4-star lineman out of Texas. If they can get him to commit on or soon after his visit, it would be quite the coup.

Ex-Nebraska Cornhuskers pitcher off to hot start

One has to wonder if Jace Kaminska has been watching his old team fight back from the losers bracket in the Big Ten Tournament. Perhaps he's too busy dominating batters in the Colorado Rockies' farm system.

Kaminska is in the middle of an 18-inning shutout streak for the Single-A Fresno Grizzlies. On the season, he's 3-1 with a 1.26 earned run average and 39 strikeouts in 35 innings pitched.

This is the first full professional season for the former Nebraksa Cornhuskers hurler and he's making the most of it.
