Almost two months to the day that former Nebraksa Cornhuskers women’s basketball player Ashley Scoggin filed a lawsuit against her old coaches and the university, one of those coaches has officially responded. Ex-Nebraska assistant coach Chuck Love is denying all the allegations and has offered quite a different version of the relationship he had with Scoggin.

Love filed his response on Friday, the same day that the Board of Regents also officially denied the allegations against the university. In addition to allegations that Love pressured Scoggin into a sexual relationship, the former Husker has also accused Nebraska Cornhuskers head coach Amy Williams and former Athletic Director Trev Alberts of not having appropriate rules, or enforcing those rules, against what Love is alleged to have done.

Love’s denials include that he never pressured her into a personal relationship. He also denied ever talking to Scoggin about inappropriate topics. There is one allegation that he agrees happened, though he claims it’s not the way the former Cornhuskers claims.

He admitted he met Scoggin at a parking lot, saying in court papers she was "emotionally distraught and urgently insisted that she needed to see (him) immediately, so they agreed to meet at a parking lot, a place where Scoggin felt she could speak without fear of being heard by others, in particular other players on the team."

However, Love said there was never a second meeting, which Scoggin said took place at a Costco parking lot. It was here where she said Love kissed her and asked, "Have you ever done anything with a coach before?"

Everything came to a head the night before a game at Penn State in February 2022.  team members and practice players created a ruse to confirm and videotape Scoggin's presence in Love's hotel room. A male practice player falsely represented himself to the desk clerk as Love to obtain a duplicate room key. When they entered, they found Scoggin on the bed fully clothed. Team members then reportedly told their findings and showed the video to Williams.

Scoggin was eventually kicked out of the Nebraska Cornhuskers program because Williams found that she had violated the rules of the team.
