Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball: Scouting the Kansas State tilt
- Kansas State is on the same kind of roll the Nebraska Cornhuskers are.
- The big difference is that the Huskers aren't ranked just yet.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team is off to its best start in years and on Tuesday night, Will Bolt’s boys can make a real statement on just how good they are.
The Huskers and Kansas State have a habit of facing off in a mid-week tilt, but the matchup has rarely been as high-profile as this year. Generally a Tuesday night game is fun but low profile. This one could end up being a preview of the postseason.
Kansas State brings a top-rated offense to town
The Wildcats have won nine in a row. They’ve won 5 of their first 6 Big 12 games and are at the top of the standings. That start has quite a bit to do with an offense that is averaging 8.6 runs per game. However, it’s not just offense that’s been impressive.
Kansas State will be facing off against the Nebraksa Cornhuskers baseball team with just 16 errors in 23 games. The defense has allowed the pitching staff to keep earned runs quite low. Just 12 so far this year.
That means that the Huskers pitching staff is going to have to execute, but so is the NU offense. They’re not going to get a ton of gifts.
Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball will need to be clutch
The Huskers have been a team that has played quite a few close games. That’s allowed them to sharpen their swords, even if they haven’t always come out victorious. However, Kansas State is a very similar team in regards to close games.
The Huskers are 9-3 in games decided by three runs or fewer. Kansas State is 7-3 in the same type of game.
Something’s got to give
When looking at what both teams offer, it really does feel like this game is going to be a matchup of two very similar squads.
One thing to keep in mind is that it’s going to be very cold. So don’t expect an offensive explosion. Kansas State is ranked while the Nebraksa Cornhuskers baseball team is on the cusp. A win on Tuesday and then another series win this weekend wil almost assuredly have NU in the Top 25.
