Nebraska basketball could have in with latest portal target
The Nebraska basketball team is in one heck of a state of flux. The Huskers saw their sixth player enter the transfer portal on Tuesday. So far, they haven’t picked up a single player from the portal in return. Though Fred Hoiberg is working hard to change that.
On Tuesday night, the Huskers head coach paid an in-home visit to one of the team’s top targets. This particular target is not only right at the top of Hoiberg’s list but is one of those that would fill a very obvious need.
Bradley’s Connor Hickman is exactly the kind of player the Nebraska basketball team needs to haul in. He’d be someone that can fill the massive hole on the roster left by Keisei Tominaga. And he’d fill one of the seven holes on the roster that have been left by all the departures.
Hickman, who has one more year of eligibility, started 87 of 96 games for the Bradley Braves over the past three years. Hickman entered the portal in March because he’s looking to take his game to the next level for his final season.
Hickman led Bradley with 14.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.2 steals per game this season and was named 3rd-Team All-Missouri Valley Conference. That’s led several big programs such as Indiana and Cincinnati to also hold in-home visits. Kansas and Villanova have come calling as well.
Nebraska basketball may have secret weapon
It’s not clear exactly what Hickman might see as the top reason to transfer to a school. If playing in the NCAA Tournament is one of them, then thankfully, the Nebraska basketball team can actually offer that.
If relationships with coaches and teammates are at the top of the list, then the Huskers might have an in. Connor Hickman is a former teammate of Nebraska basketball center Rienk Mast. It’s possible reuniting could be a factor in his next landing spot.
