Matt Rhule to Michigan rumors briefly freak out Nebraska football fans
In the immediate aftermath of Jim Harbaugh leaving Michigan, there was a brief moment that had Nebraska football fans very nervous. That moment was when Huskers head coach Matt Rhule was mentioned in the same breath as other possible replacements for Harbaugh.
Pete Thamel took to X directly after it was announced that Harbaugh was going to the Chargers. He first mentioned Sherrone Moore, who appears to be the odds on favorite for the job. He also talked about other names that could be, or had been in the mix the last time Michigan thought it would need to get a new coach.
"Offensive coordinator and part-time 2023 interim Sherrone Moore is the favorite to replace Jim Harbaugh at Michigan," Thamel wrote. "Other names: Lance Leipold, Chris Klieman and Dave Clawson. Matt Rhule and Luke Fickell have been considered amid past Harbaugh flirtations with the NFL."
As the tweet started to circulate around social media, there were plenty of Nebraska football fans who got a bit nervous. However, it didn't take long for most of those who were even a little bit worried, start to realize how odd that move would be.
"Feel like Rhule has probably know for awhile that Harbaugh is leaving," one fan wrote. "Why would he recruit so hard if he was going to leave after?
"Sources," another tweeted. "People who think Matt Rhule would leave Nebraska for Michigan are IDIOTS."
Nebraska football fans don't need to worry about losing Matt Rhule, at least not to Michigan
The fact of the matter is that while Matt Rhule is one who is respected in the college football world, Michigan fans would absolutely revolt if the Wolverines went from winning a national championship to a coach who went 5-7 in 2023.
Nebraska football fans can be safe in the assumption that Rhule is here for at least a little while longer. And hopefully he'll be here for the long haul.
