When the Nebraska football team takes on the UTEP Miners, there will be all kinds of expectations. Obviously, there is an expectation that quarterback Dylan Raiola will show everyone that all the hype was warranted.

There is also some expectations that the Huskers will put on such a show that they’ll be able to reel in one of the best players in the state. And there are expectations that NU will jump out to an early lead and just absolutely rout the visiting team that is nearly a four-touchdown underdog.

Then of course, there is the expectation that the Nebraska football team will be able to find some answers in the kicking game. Of all of them, that one could be the one that’s most unrealistic.

Nebraska football head coach has modest expectations

For head coach Matt Rhule, the expectations are simple.

“I just want them to play well,” Rhule said when addressing the media this week. “I want the team to look the way it’s supposed to look. I want to play hard, play physical, I want to have clean football. I want to protect the football, I want to be aggressive, I want to block their pressures, their excellent defense, excellent pressure unit. Recognize their fronts.”

It should surprise no one that Rhule is also expecting his quarterbacks to avoid turnovers above all else.

“Dylan (Raiola) will have a challenge, and the other quarterbacks will have a challenge in recognizing their coverage structures. They’ll check when we check, they’re a really well put together team. I want us to play well, that’s all I care about, and I want that for the whole team.”

It’s safe to say that the bottom line is Nebraska football fans feel the same way.
