Marcus Satterfield ultimatum to his Nebraska football charges raises eyebrows

There was talk of a similar ultimatum last year, and the Huskers didn't really stick to it.

Marcus Satterfield likely knows that he is not the most popular guy on the Nebraska football team among some circles. After all, he was basically the only assistant coach on Matt Rhule’s staff last year who fans were calling to fire after the opening week. And then every week after.

Satterfield also likely knows that quite a few of the problems with the offense were less about his coaching and more about his players. And the fact that they tended to turn the ball over far too often.

So just ahead of fall camp, the offensive coordinator (who is sharing those duties with Glenn Thomas but still making the play calls) offered up an ultimatum. There aren’t going to be turnovers. And if there are, retribution will be swift.

Nebraska football coach ultimatum has some wondering if he will follow through

“We’re not gonna turn the ball over anymore,” Satterfield said during his Tuesday press conference the day before the Huskers officially kick off fall camp. “And if you turn it over, you’re NOT gonna play.”

Certainly that’s something NU fans want to hear. They want to hear that not only do the coaches take the turnovers seriously, but they also have an approach.

However, the staff said something similar last year. And for the most part (outside of the quarterback), they honored that pledge.

It didn’t stop the turnovers. Granted, mostly because it was the quarterbacks turning the ball over.

If the Nebraska football team can stand by those words. And if the Huskers aren’t just benching guys left and right, that pledge will be remembered.
