While we wait for the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team’s season to start, there are other ways to enjoy the exploits of former Huskers. You might have noticed there’s something called the Olympics going on. As it turns out, there are quite a few athletes that once called NU home participating.

Front and center among the athletes that are participating in the Olympics this summer are former Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball players who helped the United States team to a five-set win on Wednesday.

Team USA Women’s Volleyball competed in its second match of the 2024 Paris Olympics. USA clashed with back-to-back Volleyball World Champion Serbia on Wednesday, and the match came as advertised, going down to the wire. And former Nebraska Cornhuskers played a big part in the win.

Team USA walked away with the victory, earning itself two points to move up to three in Pool A. Serbia forced a fifth set after Team USA took a 2-0 lead. Both teams traded blows throughout the final set, but the US pulled away in the end to take the win.

Former Nebraska Cornhuskers Justine Wong-Orantes, Kelsey Robinson Cook, and Jordan Larson returned to the court for Team USA. Wong-Orantes led the way for the Husker alumni, continuing to serve Team USA as its libero. She finished the match with 11 digs.

Now the former Huskers and Team USA will finish off the first round period with with a showdown tilt against Olympics host country France on Sunday.
