Early bowl projections have the Nebraska football team playing in New York
The Nebraska football team won't kick off their season against the UTEP Miners until Saturday afternoon. Despite the fact they haven't played a game yet this year, there are already some people who think they're going bowling.
In fact, most of the college football world believes that the Huskers will be going to their first bowl since 2016. Count the USA Today writers among those who believe Matt Rhule is finally going to get NU into the postseason.
Interestingly enough, if the USA Today projections are correct, the Nebraska football team could face off against a team they haven't seen in quite a while. However, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are one of those teams that have left a bad taste in the mouth of Husker fans of a certain age.
Nebraska football expected to go bowling in New York
Officially, the analysts have picked Nebraska to face Georgia Tech in the Pinstripe Bowl.
The Pinstripe Bowl will be played on Saturday, December 28, at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. While it's a safe bet they wouldn't mind going somewhere nice and balmy over the winter break, the Huskers more likely just hope this is the year they will break their post-season drought.
Nebraska has not played in a post-season game since the 2016 Music City Bowl. That game saw the Cornhuskers fall to the Tennessee Volunteers, 38-24.
Nebraska has played a bowl game at Yankee Stadium before, though it was quite a while ago. Bob Devaney's squad played in the 1962 Gotham Bowl wher the Huskers defeated the Miami Hurricanes 36-34.
In the team's history, Nebraska football has played in 53 bowl games and hold an all-time record of 26-27.
