One day before the Nebraska football season, it wouldn’t be an overstatement to say that excitement over what the Huskers might be able to do this year is off the charts. Fans and former players alike are quite psyched up for what Matt Rhule, his coaching staff, and his charges could do in Rhule’s second season.

Count one former defensive star among those who thinks being conservative and saying a 7-5 or 8-4 season is the ceiling, as incorrect. Instead, Will Compton believes NU could be in for a massive season that could even end up with a playoff bid.

Compton was recently a featured guest on the most recent episode of Barstool Sports' "Pardon My Take" podcast. On that podcast, the former Nebraska football blackshirt was clear he sees a season that could get as good as double digit wins.

Nebraska football predicted to get double digit wins in 2024

"I feel really good about the Huskers. I like their schedule. Honestly, I think they could compete this year,” Compton said. “I think they could go 10-2."

The former Husker linebacker also said he understood that picking the team to go 10-2 would likely have a lot of people making fun of him.

"I understand the recent history of Nebraska to where it is like, 'Oh these guys are delusional'. There's something about this year," Compton said.

He wasn’t shy about making it clear that at least part of the reason things are different is because Dylan Raiola will be under center. However, Rhule’s steady hand is perhaps even a bigger reason.

You've come across his speeches I'm sure. The way he interacts with the guys, the words he has to say, it always feels like he has the right thing to say at the right time," the former Nebraska football Blackshirt added.
