The Nebraska football team is on a heck of a run. And this is before the big recruiting weekends officially kick off for June.

On a thrilling Saturday, the Huskers secured their second commitment of the week, this time from the talented Millard North linebacker Pierce Mooberry. This exciting addition follows the pledge of 4-star running back Jamarion Parker, marking a promising trend for the team's recruitment efforts.

While Mooberry’s commitment might not be making headlines for some, his status as an in-state prospect adds a significant layer of importance to this acquisition. The fact that he’s chosen to stay in Nebraska is a testament to the team's appeal and the strength of our local talent pool.

Nebraska football fought off the best in the nation for Pierce Mooberry

Some people might not get all that excited about a player that is No. 7 in the state. However, despite his relatively low ranking, there are quite a few power teams that have come after Mooberry.

The linebacker might not be as high profile as Christian Jones, but he’s still getting an SEC power as one of the schools who want him on the roster. When he chose the Cornhuskers, he picked them over programs like Iowa State, Minnesota, Kansas State, Alabama, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

Matt Rhule’s dedication to locking the border down shows up again

Since coming to Lincoln, Rhule has taken some heat for some high-profile in-state misses. However, in the 2025 class, he’s already landed five “locally grown” players. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound linebacker joins Jackson Carpenter, Conor Booth, Tyson Terry, and Caden VerMaas. This strategy aims to solidify the Huskers' presence within Nebraska and prevent local talent from going elsewhere.

Pierce Mooberry’s fit with Nebraska football

The Cornhuskers reportedly view Mooberry as a versatile linebacker with the potential to contribute in multiple ways. They see him as a rangy defender who can rush the passer, drop into coverage, and be a force against the run.

That ability to adapt is key to Tony White’s defense with Nebraska football.
