Is the Big Ten about to lose one of its highest profile coaches after Ryan Day lost for the fourth straight time to Michigan? As the great Lee Corso says, “no so fast my friends.”
Reports are circulating around Columbus that the Buckeyes might not have the cash they need in order to show Day the door. That’s certainly much to the chagrin of OSU fans who were voicing their desire to be done with this era of Ohio State football after a brutal loss to the Wolverines that saw Day’s team get knocked out of the Big Ten Title game.
According to John U. Bacon, there isn’t a big appetite to pay Ryan Day’s buyout of $37 million. Apparently the Buckeyes’ boosters would rather spend the money on NIL and other projects and aren’t thrilled about being asked for the cash to replace the coach.
Ryan Day could stick around the Big Ten
Should that report be true, it would be one that plenty of OSU fans are livid about. The loss to Michigan is just the latest disappointing defeat that Ryan Day has suffered despite routinely having a ridiculously talented roster.
It is of course interesting that while Nebraska football didn’t managed to add a loss to Day’s resume, it did show that the Buckeyes weren’t quite the juggernaut people thought they would be.
No matter what happens, it won’t be the Nebraska football team’s problem as they don’t play Ryan Day or Ohio State again until 2026. He could definitely be gone by then.
