John Cook has officially handed over the reins for the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team to former Louisville head coach Dani Busboom Kelly. As it turns out she’s getting paid a pretty penny.

That’s hardly a surprise considering that there are few women’s programs in the country that saw the revenue the Huskers volleyball team did. NU also had to lure away a coach from her own program that just appeared in the National Title Match.

Dani Busboom Kelly had a great deal fo success at Louisville. While she’s a former Nebraska Cornhuskers star, wanting to come back to the program she played at isn’t the end-all and be-all. She also needed a salary that showed the Huskers’ valued her coming back “home.”

According to Lincoln Arneal, Busboom Kelly is signing a 6-year contract with the University that will pay her a total of $4.575 million. Her starting base pay will be $700,000 and increase $25,000 each year. It’s worth noting that Cook’s base pay this year was $750,000.

Her Nebraska Cornhuskers salary includes some very interesting bonuses. She can earn more money for winning the Big Ten ($50K), reaching the Final Four ($50K), National Coach of the Year ($100K) and a National Title ($100K). Obviously, the Huskers are hoping that she hits a ton of those bonuses before she’s here too long. Luckily, at the moment it looks as though she’s going to be handed the same team John Cook would have been coaching in 2025. Which is to say easily one of the best in the country.
