Key Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball star confirms she's staying after John Cook exit

There could still be fallout for the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team, but the Huskers managed to keep one of its most important pieces.

When John Cook announced he was stepping down as head coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Wednesday, there were few players Husker fans worried about more than Harper Murray.

After all, even with a former NU player coming to take over for the retiring coach, there’s still the knowledge that Murray and Cook have a very close relationship. It seems unlikely he’s been as close with anyone else as he’s been with the sophomore outside hitter.

However, on Thursday afternoon, not long after Cook gave his official farewell press conference, Murray tamped down any worries that might have surfaced among Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball fans. Murray took to social media and made it very clear that she’s coming back for the 2025 season.

Murray likely worried a few Husker fans when she posted a picture of herself not exactly looking thrilled. Though she did add a caption “anyways” across the photo. In the comments her followers cut to the chase quickly with one saying “please stay, we love you!”

Murray then responded directly to that comment with “I’m not going anywhere.”

The following comments were all about how she had made everyone’s day and year by “announcing” that Cook’s retirement didn’t mean she was done in Lincoln.

It will certainly be interesting to see how the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team takes shape under Dani Busboom Kelly and how many players decide they’re ride or die with the new hire, and who might decide they need to go elsewhere.
