It’s a safe bet that the Nebraska women’s basketball team is still hurting. The Huskers took the Louisville Cardinals all the way down to the wire in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last week.

In fact, had freshman Britt Prince found a way to get her last second layup go in, it’s entirely possible that the Huskers would have taken on TCU in the second round. And while the Horned Frogs had no problem at all with the Cardinals, Amy Williams’ squad is used to going up the best of the best when it comes to the most newsworthy players in the country. Perhaps they could have found a way to knock off Haley Van Lith and company.

It wasn’t meant to be for the Nebraska women’s basketball team, but it was clear after the game that Louisville coach Jeff Walz knew he went up against a very good squad. Of course, NU has a special place in Walz’s heart since he coached on the Cornhuskers staff for four years.

Nebraska women’s basketball team praised by rival coach after NCAA Tournament tilt

It's a game where things go full circle throughout your career, and it's really, it's something special, and that's one of the things when you play a game like this, sure, you're playing out there to win, but I do feel for her because I've been there. I understand how hard the amount of time and effort your staff, head coaches, the players all put into it, especially this time of the year.

Walz was especially impressed with the way that Prince, who led the Huskers with 14 points played against his squad and he made it clear after the game that he felt like she should have gotten more attention over the course of the season.

“It's really sad because that kid's special. For a freshman, it's amazing how she played and how good she is. But it's unfortunate that we don't do a better job within women's basketball of just not sticking with one or two or three or five players. Expand it. When somebody starts showing how good they are during the year, God forbid if we do a special on them”

Prince will have plenty more years to show the world how special she is. And Nebraska women’s basketball will be big beneficiaries.
