Nebraska women's basketball adds height out of transfer portal with big commitment

A win out of the transfer portal could help Nebraska women's basketball take it to the next level.

Even though the transfer portal is closed, that doesn't mean commitments are coming to an end. At this point in the transfer portal cycle, players can't enter the portal, but those who are already there can still commit to a new school or return to their original school at any point.

Nebraska women's basketball made it to the NCAA Tournament yet again this season, but through a First Four game. The Huskers were an 11-seed and beat Richmond to face the 6-seed Baylor in the first round. After falling just short against the Bears, Nebraska head coach Amy Williams has done some work in the transfer portal.

The biggest transfer that Nebraska landed is 6-foot-9 redshirt sophomore Arek Angui from Auburn. Angui originally played at UCF her first season and redshirted, then transferred to Auburn, and is now with Nebraska as her third school.

There is not a lot to look at when it comes to Angui's stats, as she averaged just 1.5 points per game in 20 appearances for the Tigers. Angui didn't spend a ton of time on the court, averaging just 8.7 minutes per game, but did average 2.6 boards and 0.5 blocks per game.

Angui will add some serious height to Nebraska, something the Cornhuskers definitely need. While ANgui may not bring a ton of experience with her, she can bring the presence in the paint that Williams needs to help the Huskers take that next step forward.

Nebraska has proven it can be an NCAA Tournament team; they just need to keep growing as a team and bringing in a player like Angui, who feels a little like a blank canvas for Williams. Angui will be able to develop well under Williams and hopefully help the Huskers in big ways next season.
