Now that the first day of the NFL Draft has come and gone, it was another year where the Nebraska Cornhuskers didn't see anyone selected in the first round. That's not particularly a shock considering the Huskers don't expect many players to get drafted this year at all.

However, there was some hope that running back Emmett Johnson would get taken on Thursday night. It wasn't many, but some NFL Mock Drafts did have the Cornhuskers RB going off the board at a pretty high spot.

The good news is that both Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price went in the first round. Many analysts believe the Nebraska Cornhuskers' running back is the best player left at his position. That means there's a very good chance that a team might call his name on Friday night when the second and third rounds of the draft take place.

More Nebraska Cornhuskers news

  • The Nebraska basketball team demonstrated it wasn't done adding players from the Transfer Portal just yet. On Thursday, Fred Hoiberg's squad secured yet another commitment from former San Diego State guard Taj DeGourville. The new addition is expected to be a major upgrade to the team's defensive backcourt.
  • Former Husker Dylan Raiola left Nebraska knowing that he'd sit behind Dante Moore in 2026. However, with the Oregon Ducks securing the commitment of the top quarterback prospect in 2027, Will Mencl, there are some who wonder whether Raiola might not be the starter when Moore leaves for the NFL.
  • While Husker fans wait and watch to see which NU players get drafted, there's one former prep star who didn't go to Nebraska but can still add to his alma mater's draft history. Cole Payton impressed NFL front offices with his lone season as a starter at South Dakota State. He also had a great combine. If he gets drafted, it would be just the second player ever from Millard South to get that honor.
  • The Nebraska Cornhuskers women's basketball team got some good news on Thursday as well. Amy Williams added Brinley Altenburg, a 5-10 Sioux Falls, South Dakota native, to the roster. Altenburg becomes the first commitment for the 2027 class for the Huskers and chose Nebraska over 20 other Division I offers. The guard was a high-priority target for some of Nebraska's biggest rivals, as Creighton and Iowa offered the Top 100 target prior to the Huskers' August 4, 2024, offer on Altenburg's official visit.
