It seemed like Nebraska was done with Transfer Portal shopping. However, it turns out Fred Hoiberg still had at least one player to pick up off the shelves. In nabbing former San Diego State guard Taj DeGourville, the Huskers got someone who can beef up their bench and add a shutdown defender to a team looking to reload for another deep NCAA Tournament run.
Rivals analysts were the first to report the Huskers added DeGourville on Thursday afternoon after basketball analyst Robin Washut hinted at a commitment earlier in the day. DeGourville spent two seasons playing for the Aztecs.
Nebraska basketball adds defensive ace in Taj DeGourville
This past season, he appeared in 33 games, making five starts. DeGourville averaged 5.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game across 19.4 minutes per game. So far during his career, DeGourville has 64 games of experience under his belt. What Nebraska really liked about the new addition is his size and ability to be a concern when defending opposing guards.
Despite some limited playing time, the former Aztec guard also averaged nearly a steal per game.
Nebraska has pursued several portal targets that are still technically out there for the taking, and the surprise departure of Ugnius Jarusevicius added another roster spot to be filled.
There's been quite a bit of roster shuffling over the last few weeks as nine Huskers moved on either through the portal, or graduation. So far, NU has added five Transfer Portal additions and will have two freshman joining the squad in 2027:
Nebraska basketball's new additions to roster reload
- Colin Rice (2026 4-star wing)
- Jacob Lanier (2026 4-star guard)
- Sam Orme (Belmont transfer, announced April 9)
- Kadyn Betts (Montana transfer, announced April 17)
- Trevan Leonhardt (Utah Valley transfer, announced April 17)
- Boden Kapke (Boston College transfer, announced April 18)
- Taj DeGourville (San Diego State transfer, announced April 23)
With the Thursday afternoon commitment, Nebraska now has two roster spots left to fill, should Fred Hoiberg decide to do so.
