Nebraska ridiculously slips in AP Top 25 votes after domination of Akron

If a Nebraska football win by 68 points loses votes, what are we even doing here?

No one really thought the Nebraska football team would jump into the AP Top 25 after a home win over the Akron Zips. But when the Huskers won a game 68-0, it seems safe to think they wouldn't actually lose votes. And yet ...

Last week, the Huskers garnered 13 votes after their close win over the Cincinnati Bearcats. They were ranked as the No. 35 team in the country, which made sense as they didn't look great, but looked solid enough to get some love from the pollsters. But then there's the post-Week 2 votes.

Nebraska football loses some votes in AP Top 25

On Sunday afternoon, the latest AP Top 25 poll was released, and the Nebraska football team garnered just 10 votes. In other words, three pollsters who felt the Cornhuskers deserved to be in the Top 25 after a 3-point win over Cincinnati no longer believed they belonged after a 68-0 win over Akron. One has to wonder what the score should have been for them to keep those three votes.

In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't mean a whole lot. The Huskers won't really sniff the Top 25 unless and until they beat Michigan in Week 4. They're still technically ranked No. 35 which means they might even need to get to 5-0 or 6-0 to jump into the poll.

Still, it's one of those oddities that makes the AP Polls so strange. The Nebraska football team did everything it should have been asked to do on Saturday night. They played 108 players and still kept scoring. And yet, they got less love on Sunday.
