Following the Nebraska football win over the Akron Zips, plenty of Husker coaches and players were more than a little happy about how the team performed. While the defense stood out with a shutout, it was the offense that got plenty of flowers.
The Huskers know that if they want to compete in the Big Ten, they're going to need to score, and score a lot. That's why head coach Matt Rhule and several other players weren't just happy about how the offense played, but how well so many different players contributed to the 68-0 win over the Akron Zips.
Dylan Raiola didn't get enough credit in the first Nebraska football game
Rhule was more than a little hyped after the game over how starting quarterback Dylan Raiola played against Akron. Completing 24-of-31 passes for a career high 364 yards and 4 TDs was impressive. Still, Rhule also thought Raiola didn't get enough credit for what he did against Cincinnati.
"His feet were actually maybe a little out of whack early tonight, he thought, but thought he found it and was in command." He added, "What Dylan is doing is he's playing quarterback. He's elite before the snap."
TJ Lateef impressed Rhule as well
Backup quarterback TJ Lateef got his first action as a college player and played exceptionally well.
The coach said TJ Lateef had a "dynamic" play on the run down to the 1. He said one thing about Dana Holgorsen is he's not going to have his backup just hand it off. Rhule said one thing about Lateef is the moment isn't too big for him. He thought he was poised and pushed the ball down the field. "I think it shows how much we trust him."
Rhule added that Lateef is going to play as often as they need him. Even if he blows his redshirt. Rhule said he's the backup quarterback.
Nyziah Hunter is excited about the Nebraska wide receiver corps
New Nebraska star Nyziah Hunter had 4 catches for 82 yards against Akron. But it's not just his performance he's happy about. He talked at length about freshman Quinn Clark's first career touchdown catch.
He knew Clark was going to score when Dana Holgorsen called the play, Hunter said. Hunter is also plenty excited about Dane Key being on the other side of the field.
He said with Key on one side and him on the other, "who can really stop that?" He added that Key has been a big leader for the Nebraska football team, saying there's a reason why Key has a "C" on his jersey.
