Even though there is still a bowl game that Nebraska has to get through, fans are excited to start looking towards the future of Cornhuskers football. Nebraska's 2025 football season was not what fans were hoping for, but at least the team is bowl eligible, and then head coach Matt Rhule can get back to work on building the future of Nebraska football.

That future does start with spring football, and Nebraska has made a big announcement on the Spring Game that will make fans very happy. Rhule announced that Nebraska will bring back the Spring Game in 2026 after not having one in 2025.

While it is not set in stone just yet, that seems to be what is trending with the program. In 2025, Nebraska did not have a spring game, but instead a series of different events called "Husker Games." Rhule decided not to have a spring game as there were concerns about losing players to the transfer portal in the spring window.

Now, with no spring transfer portal window, there must be more confidence in being able to retain players through the spring football season.

Nebraska could be heading towards and interesting transfer portal window

The winter transfer portal window is obviously sticking around, and it could be an interesting one for the Cornhuskers. After Dylan Raiola's brother Dayton Raiola de-committed from Nebraska, there have been rumors and growing concern that Dylan will enter the transfer portal this offseason.

Raiola suffered a leg injury late in the season that ended his sophomore year early. Raiola has been rocking with Nebraska for a while and certainly looked better this season than he did in 2025. If Nebraska were to lose Raiola, all attention would go towards backup TJ Lateef, who stepped in for Raiola when he was injured.

Rhule will have a lot of work to do in the transfer portal this offseason if some other big names choose not to come back to the Cornhuskers this season.
