The Nebraska football team wants to bolster its wide receiver corps for next season by pursuing Tucker Holloway, who just announced he's entering the transfer portal.
Holloway can leave Virginia Tech due to the portal rules that apply when a head coach is fired. With the Hokies bidding adieu to head coach Brent Pry, Holloway is looking for another team, and the Huskers are the latest entrants into the derby to win the talented player's services.
Nebraska football targeting Virginia Tech transfer Tucker Holloway
While Holloway missed all of 2024 with an injury, Nebraska is interested in the punt returner and wide receiver because the 6-foot-2 player displayed his speed a number of times on punt returns, taking one back 90 yards in 2022 against Georgia Tech for a touchdown. In 2023, he was named to the Third Team All-ACC for punt returners.
Holloway has appeared in 22 games over the course of his career with the Hokies. He has 13 catches for 149 yards, and is most known for his punt-returning abilities. He has 36 punt returns for 476 yards, averaging 13.2 yards per punt return. He was a 2023 All-ACC Third Team punt returner.
Holloway has several schools interested in his services in addition to the Huskers. Boise State, Syracuse, Wisconsin, and Temple have all reportedly expressed interest in bringing him over.
Huskers could undoubtedly benefit from Holloway's capabilities. Special teams coach Mike Ekeler has the unit playing at a high level this season, and adding someone like Holloway to the mix would only strengthen the kick return game in addition to enhancing a receiver corps that is just starting to find its footing in 2025.
Just how quickly Holloway will move in choosing his next school is anyone's guess. It's also anyone's guess just how much progress Nebraska has made in winning the wide receiver and special teams ace over to their cause. But at least Matt Rhule and Co. have their foot in the door.
