As the Nebraska football team continues to look to revamp its defense, a new defensive tackle might have just fallen into its lap. Just weeks after the Huskers landed a new running back no one saw coming in Tikey Hayes, the Cornhuskers have an option to add to their defensive front in former Temple DT Sekou Kromah.
Kromah had a hearing on Thursday in New Jersey Superior Court in Newark, where he sought an injunction that would allow him to play the 2026 season. He argued that he and others who graduated high school in 2022 have been arbitrarily and unfairly excluded from the recently adopted NCAA rule change granting five years of eligibility to current and future student-athletes. On Friday afternoon, he was granted that injunction and will be allowed to play the 2026 season.
So where does Nebraska fit into this? While Kromah has another year, he also entered the transfer portal while he was trying to get an injunction. That means that while he could go back to Temple, where he spent his career until now, he is technically a free agent.
Kromah wouldn’t be the kind of guy the Huskers bring in to start on the defensive line. However, considering how many questions there are about how new DC Rob Aurich plans to rebuild the Blackshirts, it seems unwise to rule out a warm body with experience on the defensive front.
Nebraska football needs pass-rush depth, but Sekou Kromah remains speculative
Kromah played in seven games last season, totaling 14 tackles and three sacks. In his complaint, he described a cascading series of injuries in 2025 that followed a left shoulder injury he suffered in 2024. Kromah played extensively in the first five games in 2025 but was limited to 23 snaps in two games in the latter half of the season. He had surgery on his right shoulder in November 2025 and on his left shoulder in January 2026.
That he showed an ability to get to the quarterback in his limited action last year could make him very attractive to Nebraska defensive coaches heading into fall camp. The Huskers have also shown they’re willing to turn over any stone to upgrade the roster.
The Sekou Kromah situation might be worth watching for Nebraska football fans just days before the Huskers kick off fall camp.
