After a very long wait, the Nebraska football team has finally finished putting together its new defensive coaching staff. The final piece of the puzzle comes in the form of defensive line coach Corey Brown.
Brown comes to the Huskers from Miami of Ohio, where he spent the last three years coaching a defensive line that anchored one of the best defenses in the MAC. Before coaching with the Red Hawks, he was on the same South Dakota staff as new NU defensive coordinator Rob Aurich.
Brown and Aurich's defenses were among the best in the FCS and racked up plenty of sacks. Now, with a new defensive scheme coming to Nebraska, it's clear that the Huskers' DC wants some coaches who can teach the defensive line exactly what he's looking for.
Nebraska hires Corey Brown to lead defensive line under Rob Aurich
Brown’s lines have thrived over the years, recording 35 sacks in 2023 and 29 in 2024 for the Red Hawks. Caiden Woullard earned first-team All-MAC honors in 2023 after recording 9.5 sacks, while Ty Wise and Brian Ugwu each secured 8.0 sacks.
In 2024, Brown also helped Ugwu earn first-team All-MAC honors, while Corey Suttle was honored with second-team All-MAC honors. In 2025, Miami defensive lineman Adam Trick was named first-team All-MAC.
Brown will team with an earlier hire, Roy Manning to try and build a defensive line into a weapon after it was a major weakness for the Huskers in 2025. Manning was brought in to lead the rush ends and Brown will likely focus mostly on defensive tackles.
Earlier on Sunday, Nebraska received several predictions to land JUCO All-American DT Andy Burburjia. It seems likely the IWCC Reiver was told who would be coaching his position and he gave him a stamp of approval.
Corey Brown also has some experience coaching in the Big Ten. The newest Nebraska football hire spent several years at Rutgers.
