Now that the Nebraska football team has its first commit for the 2027 class in the boat in Trae Taylor, Matt Rhule and company aren’t wasting any time trying to ensure Taylor has plenty of protection up front when he arrives on campus.

The Huskers have turned their attention ot elite offensive line target Reis Russell and it appears that the 6-foot-3, 280-pound interior offensive lineman is definitely interested in the Cornhuskers. Russell recently talked to Rivals’ analyst Tim Verghese about his recent visit to Lincoln during the Husker Games.

Nebraska targeting elite 2027 OL Reis Russell to protect new QB commit

“It’s a great staff with awesome people around…” Reis said about the Nebraska football program. ”Really seems like a special place."

Making a good impression on Russell is obviously a big step in the right direction. The Valor Christian prospect is considered the top player in the state of Colorado according to On3’s Industry Rankings. The 4-star player is also considered the No. 17 interior lineman of his class.

It should be unsurprising then that he’s got offers not just from Nebraska but also big time teams like Tennessee, Penn State, Texas A&M, and others.

The Nebraska football team seems to be making some serious moves in the 2026 class and the 2027 cycle. While the Huskers are still looking for their first commit in the 2026 class in 2025, Trae Taylor’s commitment this week might be a way to spark another run. Taylor is certainly working hard to be a peer recruiter. It’s a safe bet that Russell will be one that Taylor works on.
