The Nebraska football team finally officially has its entire staff again. This is after seeing quite a bit of shifting around just after it played its final regular season game.

The Huskers have been looking to replace former defensive coordinator Tony White and defensive line coach Terrance Knighton for a few weeks now. Last week, it named Terry Bradden as the replacement for Knighton.

Meanwhile, John Butler was named the replacement for White and that meant the Nebraska football team had an opening at defensive backs coach. On Sunday, the program announced it had its new DB coach as well. Former UCF defensive coordinator Addison Williams is coming to Lincoln with a pretty impressive resume.

Williams, who spent the last two seasons as Central Florida’s defensive coordinator and associate head coach, managed to keep his job after Gus Malzahn hired Ted Roof to run the defense alongside him, and then subsequently fired Roof eight games into the season. Williams was on the lookout for a job after Scott Frost was hired at UCF and decided to go a different direction for his defensive coordinator.

While UCF’s defensive struggles in 2024 could be blamed on Roof, Williams’ unit was quite good in 2023. That year the Knights’ pass defense ranked 25th nationally and first in the Big 12 at 196.7. UCF only allowed 12 passing touchdowns in 2023, the fewest since 2001.

Williams joins the Nebraska football staff - though still unofficially- alongside Bradden and Phil Snow who was reportedly hired as an associate head coach. The former defensive coordinator is expected to be another set of eyes for a defense that struggled at times in 2024, especially against the pass.
