The Nebraska football game against Ohio State had a little bit of everything. Some referees were apparently trying to officiate the game while wearing blindfolds. The Huskers made an incredible comeback to take a 17-14 lead one week after being beat down by the Indiana Hoosiers, 56-7.

And there were fans throwing things onto the field after said refs made a call they didn’t like. And the fans weren’t just throwing trash on the field. They weren’t just throwing bottles. It appears that some OSU fans were even throwing cheese onto the field. Cheese.

This is normally where I would say you had to see it to believe it. But it turns out that almost everyone saw the Nebraska football game vs Ohio State. As it turns out, the NU-OSU game was the most-watched weekend contest. And it wasn’t close.

Nebraska football in most watched game of the weekend

Sports Business Journal reporter Austin Karp took to Twitter to make the announcement. Nebraska and Ohio State garnered  5.96 million viewers. It’s safe to say that a large number of those viewers might have seen that the halftime score was just 14-8 Buckeyes and realized it was a contest worth watching.

The tilt with the second most viewers ended up being Missouri-Alabama. Despite that game involving two teams that were supposed to be playoff teams it had  quite a few less viewers and brought in 5.5M sets of eyeballs.

The rest of the most-watched game rounded out this way:

  • LSU-Texas: 5.1M
  • Penn State-Wisconsin: 3.5M
  • Notre Dame-Navy: 2.8M
  • Illinois-Oregon: 2.7M
  • Oklahoma-Ole Miss: 2.6M
  • Texas Tech-TCU: 2.4M

Those numbers go to show that once again, while the Nebraska football team didn’t managed to wrangle a win, the Huskers were able to show they could compete with one of the best teams in the country, in front of a ton of viewers. That can’t hurt.
