The Nebraska coaching staff knows that fans are concerned about the running back situation.
However, Matt Rhule thinks they've cracked it. He's just not spilling the beans on how. At least not until everyone sees it in action on Saturday afternoon against Michigan State.
Nebraska football fans grow restless over RB depth behind Emmett Johnson
During his weekly press conference, Rhule said Nebraska has a "really good plan" for RB2. However, it's not saying more about it than that until the game.
Coming off another close loss followed by a bye week, Husker fans aren't in the mood for cloak and dagger. In fact, one could sum up the mood of a big chunk of NU fans as being quite grumpy on social media.
"Is there plan for the front 7 on defense and the OL?" one especially irate fan asked on Twitter. "Serious question because they were an absolute disaster 2 weeks ago."
"What about their plan to open holes in the opponent’s defensive line using subpar talent? I’m more interested in this. Please find out. An RB2 doesn’t matter if they aren’t running anywhere," another wrote.
"Oh ffs just pick one," a third Husker fan posted.
The foreshadowing is an interesting touch for a team that doesn't have many options for RB2. Kwinten Ives, Isaiah Mozee, and Mekhi Nelson have been the primary backups, with Mozee mostly getting the call in passing situations.
Nebraska does clearly need to find a solution for the backup running back, if for no other reason than Emmett Johnson cannot carry the load the way he has so far this season. It's safe to say Husker Nation is waiting with bated breath for Saturday.
