The Nebraska football team is still celebrating its blowout win over the Akron Zips. Still, they might soon have something else to pop the Champagne about. One of the top players in the state, offensive lineman Matt Erickson, is now trending in a big way for the Huskers and could continue to add to a 2027 class that could be the best of the Matt Rhule era.
Erickson took in the show on Saturday night as the Cornhuskers absolutely throttled the Zips to the tune of 68-0. While Tory Pittman and Trae Taylor are currently the only 2027 commits, Erickson and several other prospects are loving what they're seeing from what the Huskers have to offer.
Nebraska football trending for 2027 recruit Matt Erickson
That was demonstrated again on Sunday morning when Rivals analyst Greg Smith was the latest to enter a prediction that Matt Erickson will eventually commit to the Nebraska football team. Smith follows earlier predictions from Sean Callahan, Bryan Munson, and Steve Wiltfong.

Erickson was one of the first in-state players offered by Matt Rhule during the 2023 camp season, and the Huskers' coaching staff has maintained a strong relationship with the offensive lineman since.
The 2027 recruit spent plenty of time in Lincoln throughout 2024, making multiple game-day visits, attending practices, and even stopping by for Nebraska's Elite Prospect Day in the offseason.
His early return visit suggests that Erickson — who also holds offers from Kansas, Kansas State, Minnesota, and Toledo — will likely be back in Lincoln more than once during the 2025 season. The fun he almost certainly had watching the Nebraska football team romp on Saturday night could push him to make some of those visits after committing.
