Former Nebraska wide receiver Malachi Coleman is hoping to finally realize the potential he showed in his freshman season with the Wisconsin Badgers, the third team from the Big Ten he's played for.
Coleman announced last week that he'd found his new home through the transfer portal. He went from the Minnesota Golden Gophers to the Badgers after a one-year stop in the Twin Cities. That came after two seasons with the Huskers.
Coleman gives Wiscy a big-bodied pass catcher who began his career with a high-end recruiting pedigree and still has two years of eligibility left. According to Badgernotes, the former Nebraska Blue Chip shows where his new team's wide receiver room is and where it wants to go.
Former Nebraska WR Malachi Coleman joins Wisconsin via Transfer Portal
Coleman joins returning Wisconsin wide receivers Chris Brooks and Eugene Hilton. The Badgers have also signed fellow wide receivers Shamar Rigby (Oklahoma State) and Jaylon Domingeaux (SE Louisiana) out of the portal as well.
Nebraska originally won a high-profile recruiting battle with Colorado. It immediately put him to work as a true freshman in 2023. While he had just 8 catches for 139 yards and 1 touchdown, he looked like someone who could be an impact player at some point in his college career. His career took a turn when he didn't play a down in a redshirt year in 2024.
In 2025, he transferred to the Gophers. He was initially thought to be a problem for opposing Big Ten defenses for PJ Fleck's squad. However, when the smoke settled, he finished with just 5 catches for 83 yards. He did have 1 catch for 15 yards against his former teammates in Minnesota's 24-6 win last year.
Now the former Nebraska football signee will look to finally put it all together and help Wisconsin's revamped offense. He will, however, not face the Huskers in 2026 unless both squads make the Big Ten Championship Game.
