It seemed like Luke Sorensen was a silent commit to the Nebraska football team last week after he talked about Lincoln being "home" before it was really home. On Friday evening, Sorensen made it official and committed to Matt Rhule and company.
The announcement was the third addition to the Huskers' 2026 class in the last two weeks and continues to help NU build a group that could eventually be one of the best in the country. For now, the Cornhuskers are happy to have one of the best tight ends in this recruiting cycle. For his part, Sorensen thinks Rhule and the team are building something special as well.
Nebraska football adds another key offensive piece in growing 2026 class in Luke Sorensen
Speaking to 247Sports, Sorensen specifically mentioned the commitments that came before him this month in offensive linemen Rex Waterman and Hayden Ainsworth. "I think Hayden and Rex have a sense of what Nebraska is cooking up and the offense is going to be a force to reckon with..." the newest Nebraska football commit said. "I talked with Hayden and those guys and said 'Hey, if we want to build a legacy somewhere, let it be at Nebraska.'"
While it hasn't been all wins for the Huskers, considering they also recently lost defensive back, CJ Bronaugh, the offense is starting to look plenty impressive. The class has only one defensive commit with in-state linebacker Jace Reynolds. On the other side of the ball, the most notable name in the class is quarterback Dayton Raiola, the younger brother of Nebraska starting quarterback Dylan Raiola.
Sorensen's comments are most welcome because he will work to keep building the 2026 class. He has already shown he'll be doing a ton of peer recruiting.
The Nebraska football team is poised for a big weekend and could lock down several other prospects in the coming days, just ahead of a long dead period leading into fall camp.
