As the Nebraska football team puts together its new coaching staff, it continues to look like some of the new coaches could bring over some of their former players. Now that Lonnie Teasley is officially a member of Matt Rhule's staff, the first candidate to follow him, Trovon Baugh, has surfaced as he's expected to enter the transfer portal when it opens on January 2.
It's hardly a secret that part of adding new members to a coaching staff is to make sure they bring over some of their best players. That's become easier now that the transfer portal exists. Though it's still two weeks away, players have started to announce they'll be transferring, and the timing doesn't seem like a coincidence when talking about Baugh.
Baugh, a 6-foot-4, 337-pound offensive lineman, is a former Freshman All-SEC selection who started 11 games for South Carolina in 2025. He let it be known he'd enter the portal on Wednesday morning. Nebraska, looking to rebuild its offensive line under Teasley and fellow new hire Geep Wade, will almost certainly at least inquire about Baugh.

Nebraska football could target Trovon Baugh after adding Lonnie Teasley
The fresh start in the Big Ten could be welcome for the offensive lineman. While he had a fantastic freshman season in 2023, things went a bit downhill for South Carolina.
Based on PFF ratings, the offensive lineman had a solid sophomore campaign, but had some backsliding in his junior season. Now with one more year of eligibility, he's hoping a change of scenery will give him a reboot.
So far, five other South Carolina players have made their intentions known regarding the transfer portal thus far. Baugh joins tight end Michael Smith, offensive lineman Nick Sharpe, defensive lineman Zavion Hardy, linebacker Jaron Willis, and offensive lineman Mac Walters.
While he's technically the third offensive lineman to announce he'd enter the portal, he's the first to do so since Nebraska made the hiring of Lonnie Teasley official.
