The Nebraska football team is about to have a rather massive recruiting month. With few commits but progress made on multiple targets, Matt Rhule is closing in on nabbing some top-notch prospects, including James “Tank” Carrington.
Carrington is a 4-star defensive lineman out of Crean Lutheran in Irvine, California, whom the Huskers have drawn a bead on for the 2026 class. The 6-foot-2, 240-pound defensive lineman is being pursued by plenty of big schools.

However, according to On3, the Nebraska football team believes it can make a big push for the No. 38 defensive lineman and No. 35 player in the state of California. One way they’ll do that is by getting him into Lincoln for an official visit on June 23.
At the moment, Tank only has two official visits set up. That makes it all the more important that the Huskers are one. An old rival is the other, as he’s also set to visit Norman to check out the Oklahoma Sooners on June 6.
247Sports is among those who is very high on Carrington, especially as his recruitment picks up and hits the next stage:
“Really flashed on tape showing rare combination of quickness and power. Had a chance to see him multiple times this off-season and he’s a well built … with close to an 80 inch wingspan. He’s a naturally strong kid with a quick first step and can beat an opposing lineman right off the snap. Can bully and rag doll tackles and guards at the HS level and lives in the backfield.”
Carrington has shown off what he can do early and often, including being one of the standouts of last year’s Polynesian Bowl.
The Nebraska football team knows that it has a fight ahead of it, but the official visit clearly shows that Matt Rhule at least has his foot in the door.
