Ex-Nebraska football star says fans will love transfer DB if they 'turn on the tape'

Nebraska football fans might be nervous about leaning on an Idaho transfer at corner, but a former Husker offers rave reviews.

Former Idaho cornerback Andrew Marshall is going to be important to the Nebraska football team. He’s even more important to the Huskers after Saturday since Arizona transfer Marquis Groves-Killebrew decided to go back on his commitment to NU and pull out of the portal.

Leaning on an FCS transfer might make some Nebraska fans nervous. Especially after the last FCS transfer barely played at all in 2024 and the Cornhuskers are going to be without its best corner in years in Tommi Hill.

However, those who are worried about leaning on Andrew Marshall next season might feel better that a Nebraska football legend has his back. And Josh Mitchell thinks the entire fan base will have the former Idaho Vandal’s back once they really take a look at how he plays.

Nebraska football legends tells fans to ‘watch the tape’ of transfer DB

"Turn on the tape," former Nebraska captain Josh Mitchell told The Athletic’s Mitch Sherman earlier this week.

Mitchell went on to say that former Vandals’ corner has an extremely high ceiling. The ex-Husker saw the DB play whe he was coaching him for two seasons at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Eastvale, California.

"If he takes care of what he needs to do on and off the field, he'll play on Sundays."

Marshall has already shown some of that high ceiling with Idaho this past season. He was a first-team all-Big Sky selection after recording 42 tackles and breaking up three passes. And he had a high ceiling on special teams as well as defense.

The FCS star returned 14 punt returns for 150 yards and a touchdown. He also returned eight kickoffs for 327 yards and a touchdown.

Not only is Marshall someone who can be valuable to the Huskers in a number of different ways, but he’s already shown he can handle his business against Big Ten opponents. This past season his Vandals squared off against the Oregon Ducks.

Idaho lost just 24-14 to the Big Ten power and Marshall had 9 tackles and 1 passes defended. Between Mitchell’s big thumbs up, and Andrew Marshall’s performance, it’s clear that Nebraska football got a good one, even if he was under the radar before he was a member of Matt Rhule’s next roster.
