Nebraska football wide receiver Jacory Barney is expecting a tremendous sophomore season. Unfortunately, before he can really get rolling on that goal, he's going to have to overcome the hit he took in the Huskers' first game of the season.
Early in the game against Cincinnati, Barney caught a pass from quarterback Dylan Raiola and then took a rather hard hit by two defenders. The hit was so violent that many onlookers expected him to be injured. However, he continued to play on Thursday night and ended with 5 catches and 27 yards.
Jacory Barney injury update ahead of Nebraska football’s Week 2 matchup vs. Akron
While it seemed like the Nebraska football star was fine, it turns out that he's still been feeling the effects. As head coach Matt Rhule said on Thursday, Barney has been "limited" this week with an ankle injury.
Rhule went on to say that Barney has practiced this week. He's also available against Akron. However, at the moment, the staff isn't sure about how big his workload will be.
The good news here is that Nebraska shouldn't need him in order to beat the Zips. On the other hand, it's these kinds of games that the team can get him reps and allow him to really run free and show what he can do.
That in turn can build up confidence in the sophomore speedster, as well as build up confidence among the entire Nebraska football offense as it works together more and the season goes on.
