The college football season is just weeks away, and fans can't wait any longer. While everyone is happy for football to be back, the players are making sure they are doing the work on the field to have a successful season; however, they haven't spent all their time on the field.
The Cornhuskers, led by quarterback Dylan Raiola, recently ran a youth football camp, and head coach Matt Rhule made sure to comment about how proud of his guys he is. Giving back to the community in which these guys play is so important in the eyes of Rhule.
"You have a chance to be in the community," Rhule said. "Go out and be around them, impact them, I think our guys love those kinds of things."
Rhule did admit that while he has been in Lincoln, working in the community has been a point of emphasis in his program, but this past spring, it fell through the cracks a bit. Rhule said the team was so focused on being better on the field that he, in a sense, had to challenge them a bit to get back out in the community.
A lot of the kids that these guys work with at these camps won't get the opportunity to play at the next level in college, let alone in the NFL, like many of them dream to. So, to have the guys they get to see on the field come out and want to help them get just a little bit better can be a memory they will never forget.
Jacory Barney brings his infectious energy to the community
One player that Rhule made sure to give a shoutout to was wide receiver Jacory Barney. Barney is known for his energy on the field, and now he is bringing it to the kids in the community off the field. Barney has always been the loudest at practice, especially when cheering on his teammates, and Rhule knew that type of energy would do very well at the youth camps.
So yes, the Cornhuskers are ready for the season, and they have put in the work on the field, but they are also making sure to be present in the community as well.
