Nebraska Football didn’t play a game on Saturday, but they still suffered a loss. You often hear about losing to the bye, and while that’s not really accurate here when it comes to the decommitment of Bryson Hayes, Matt Rhule, and his staff have to be a bit frustrated during a week that’s been frustrating.

The Huskers had secured the commitment of Hayes back in April and since then, it’s seemed like there wasn’t much to worry about. However, the team is now dealing with needing to fill a new hole in the 2025 recruiting class. And it’s at a position NU desperately needs to upgrade before next season.

Hayes announced he’d decommitted from the Nebraska football team on Saturday night. He committed to the Kansas Jayhawks, with that move coming not long after they pulled off a big upset over Iowa State and handed the Cyclones their second straight loss after starting the year undefeated.

The biggest reason why this is a loss for the Huskers is that Hayes is a speed burner. That’s clearly something Rhule has found very valuable in the last two recruiting classes. Hayes has been clocked at running 4.36 40-yard dash

The Huskers have wide receiver commitments from Jackson Carpenter and Isaiah Mozee, but have been hunting for more additions at the position group. That includes getting Michael Terry III on campus several times since his official visit and Oklahoma commitment Cortez Mills on campus for the Colorado game earlier this season.

Now that Hayes has officially gone over to Kansas, it’s likely the Nebraska football team will work even harder to land itself another wide receiver before the 2025 class is officially in the books.
