As it turns out, the search for Nebraska football’s next defensive coordinator was less a search and more a passing of the mantle. Along that mantle passing, the “new” man leading the defense has named a couple of those who will help him try and improve a unit that ranked in the Top 20 in both years that Tony White ran things on that side of the ball.
On the same day that White announced his departure, the most prominent theory among Husker fans was that the job would be John Butler’s. It was after all, assumed that one of the reasons Butler agreed to replace Evan Cooper as NU’s defensive backs coach is because he would eventually be the the Huskers defensive coordinator. That’s now come to pass.
According to Pete Thamel, the Nebraska football program has officially named Butler its new DC. But he’s not the only change to the staff. Thamel says Phil Snow, who was considered a possible candidate for Butler’s new job has officially been hired as the associate head coach. But wait … there’s more!
Nebraska football has finished its staff reshuffle
Rhule has also reportedly found the man who will replace Terrance Knighton in former Kansas City Chiefs assistant defensive line coach Terry Bradden.
Now that Butler has been promoted, Phil Snow has been shifted from part time analyst and “extra set of eyes” to Associate Head Coach and Bradden has been hired, it would seem as though the reshuffling of the Nebraska football coaching staff is complete as the Huskers also added Phillip Simpson as the outside linebackers’ coach.
