While the National media still continues to be lazy and focus entirely too much of its attention on Nebraska football quarterback Dylan Raiola's similarities to Patrick Mahomes, the sophomore signal caller is quietly putting up the best season in college football.
Raiola had a better freshman season than most people give him credit for. However, because it was a bit up and down, some wondered over the offseason if he was overhyped. His start to his sophomore season shows he was, in fact, not overhyped. Even in a loss to Michigan, Raiola put up big numbers and issued a warning to the rest of the sport about taking the Cornhuskers lightly.
Dylan Raiola should be making more headlines leading the Nebraska football team
While leading Nebraska to a 3-1 record, he's shown the kind of leadership that his coaches talked about over the summer. And he's putting up numbers that should have everyone taking notice. Those stats have combined to make Dylan Raiola the only FBS quarterback who has over 1,000 yards passing, 10+ touchdowns, and a 75% completion percentage.
It's worth pointing out that his 1,137 passing yards have him 11th in the country and 3rd in the Big Ten despite missing the equivalent of an entire game by sitting in the second half against Akron and Houston Christian.
He's also tied for 6th in the country in TD passes. He's only got one interception. He's third in the country (and the Big Ten) in completion percentage. And he's done all of that despite being tied for 6th in the country in most times being sacked with 10.
While the media is busy drawing comparisons to Mahomes, (real and imagined), they're paying almost no attention at all what Dylan Raiola is doing for the Nebraska football team. To the detriment not only to the Huskers QB, but the sport in general.
