Nebraska football quarterback Dylan Raiola was recently inexplicably ranked lower in CBS Sports' QB power rankings after a career day against the Akron Zips than he was the previous week. While the drop wasn't a big one, there are certainly some questions as to just how the analyst managed to arrive at his decision.
Last Saturday, Raiola threw for 364 yards and four touchdowns in his team's 68-0 victory over Akron. For the season, he has 607 yards and six touchdowns with a QBR of 81.2. He's also completed nearly 80% of his passes. Last year, as a freshman, he had 2,819 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, 11 interceptions while completing 67.1% of his passes.
CBS Sports' David Cobb ranked the Nebraska football quarterback at No. 28 after being ranked No. 27 the week before. Unfortunately, Cobb doesn't give any explanation for his rankings beyond the Top 20, so there's no way to tell how he slipped in the rankings despite his fantastic outing.
Why Nebraska football fans are upset with Raiola’s national ranking
The Husker quarterback currently ranks seventh among Big Ten quarterbacks on the list, with Illinois quarterback Luke Altmyer ranked the highest of the conference QBs at No. 4 overall.
Ohio State's Julian Sayin (No. 7), Washington's Desmond Williams (No. 13), USC's Jayden Maiava (No. 14), Oregon's Dante Moore (No. 15), and Penn State's Drew Allar (No. 21, down from No. 3) are all ranked ahead of Raiola.
The next highest-ranked Big Ten quarterback after the Nebraska football star is Michigan State's Aidan Chiles, who jumped into the No. 35 spot after being unranked the week before.
