The Kansas City Chiefs might have not only scored one of the steals of the draft by getting Emmett Johnson in the fifth round, but they might have also scored the UDFA steal of the weekend by signing DeShon Singleton. The former Nebraska safety had a very solid career in Lincoln, and now he travels just down the road to try to continue his football career in Arrowhead.

ESPN analyst Jeremy Fowler was the first to announce Singleton signed his deal with the Chiefs. He and the former Nebraska running back will now both have a familiar face in Kansas City as they both prepare for the 2026 season.

DeShon Singleton and Emmett Johnson are teammates after their Nebraska football days

As a senior in 2025, Singleton recorded 70 tackles, one sack, and two interceptions en route to honorable mention All-Big Ten honors. The ex-Nebraska defender was ranked just outside of Mel Kiper Jr's Top-10 safeties heading into the spring.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Singleton started 30 games across his 42 games as a Husker, making 163 total tackles, three interceptions, and eight pass breakups. He played in the Senior Bowl in January, picking off a pass on a deflection in the showcase game. He was also one of just a handful of Cornhuskers invited to the NFL Combine.

Kansas City Chiefs score a pair of solid Nebraska football players over the weekend

Emmett Johnson was the only former Nebraska football player to be drafted this past weekend. However, Singleton and several other teammates got a chance to try out for various NFL teams once the draft was over.
